The festive season of Christmas often results in you hosting many gatherings and parties. Therefore, it is important to have your wood flooring protected and looking it’s best for the season! Even though it may seem early to be thinking about Christmas, it is important to get your flooring some attention before all the guests, and Santa, come to visit.

If you are not planning to have a brand-new wood floor installed every few years, then it is imperative to be cleaning your floor and not damage your beautiful wood floor. Firstly, simply things like, regularly sweep the dust and debris that sits on top of your flooring; using soft bristle brushes as these won’t scratch your floors (especially since this is what we are trying to avoid by removing the dust and debris)! If you keep this consistent cleaning and maintenance of your flooring – oiled flooring in particular – then you can avoid further work on the flooring such as resanding. We wouldn’t recommend using excess moisture to clean your floors such as with a very wet mop, as any penetrated moisture can expand and damage the wood. We recommend that you use something like a microfibre cloth mop with a specialist wood floor detergent, and you don’t need to use much at all. Always remember to dry the floor to ensure that the floorboards stay in place.

If you opt to having more of a dramatic refresh of your floors before decking the halls, then you should definitely consider refinishing your wood floors! This is a more expensive choice and is a longer process (so definitely book this with plenty of time before Christmas). If you choose to have your floors refinished, the floors will get sanded down, new staining applied and the finishing it off with some chemical protection again. This is something that cannot be continually done to wood flooring so be sure to get the advice of professionals on whether your floor needs to be refinished. If your flooring is starting to look worn – and this isn’t the look you intended for it – then you should look at getting your floor recoated. This is an option if there is minimal damage to your flooring. A layer of chemical protection will be added to the wood flooring and will give it a new shine as well as minimising the damage that the chaos of Christmas will bring to it. If you are looking for an affordable option to spruce up your floors, then this is definitely the one to consider! Be sure to contact us for more information and guidance on this method.

This all depends on if your flooring is oiled or lacquered. Oiled wood flooring needs to be redone every 2-4 years dependent on location of the flooring and the traffic it is exposed to on a day-to-day basis. Specialist detergents are needed to be used before a reoiling can occur. For recommendations on what products to use then be sure to contact us on our website or our social medias! For lacquered flooring, we have numerous specialist wood floor cleaners that we can recommend to you to help you. Although, eventually all lacquered floors will need to be sanded, these products that clean and refresh sealed floors can delay the inevitable.

Furthermore, you may even want to have a brand-new floor to show off to your festive guests! This is something that will involve a lot of planning so be sure to think of this in plenty of time. Businesses’ availability will fill up quickly so book in early and get the process started as soon as possible. This option will definitely be the perfect Christmas present to you from you!
