If you are not planning to have a brand-new wood floor installed every few years, then it is imperative to be cleaning your floor and not damage your beautiful wood floor. Firstly, simply things like, regularly sweep the dust and debris that sits on top of your flooring; using soft bristle brushes as these won’t scratch your floors (especially since this is what we are trying to avoid by removing the dust and debris)! If you keep this consistent cleaning and maintenance of your flooring – oiled flooring in particular – then you can avoid further work on the flooring such as resanding. We wouldn’t recommend using excess moisture to clean your floors such as with a very wet mop, as any penetrated moisture can expand and damage the wood. We recommend that you use something like a microfibre cloth mop with a specialist wood floor detergent, and you don’t need to use much at all. Always remember to dry the floor to ensure that the floorboards stay in place.
